What should I wear?

Dress for cooler temperatures but be prepared for sudden weather changes. It is best to dress in layers and wear breathable clothing with waterproof shells. Do not wear jeans as you will get wet from the snow, making it very difficult to stay warm and they have a tendency to bunch up in the ski boots. Long underwear and ski pants are highly recommended. Socks should fit snug but not tight. Don’t forget your hat and gloves!

Due to the reflection of the snow and water, you can sunburn much more easily than most people think. Be sure to protect your face and lips with appropriate sunscreen (at least 15 SPF), and protect your eyes with sunglasses or goggles.

Once I have arrived at Ski Ben Eoin, where do I go?

When you arrive at Ski Ben Eoin, you will be looking for the Ticketing and Rental areas, which are located in the building labeled “Customer Service Centre”. This facility provides all you need to get on the slopes including hill passes, rental equipment, and lessons. The washroom facilities and cafeteria are located in the main chalet.
.

What is easier to learn, skiing (downhill / cross country) or snowboarding?

Hardly anything is easy the first time you try it. If it were, there would be a whole lot of experts running around. Like most things, there are easy and difficult aspects of both skiing and snowboarding. You will find that you have a natural aptitude for one or the other and we have ski/snowboard pros to assist you in receiving the most enjoyable experience.
.

What equipment will I need?

If you are interested in learning to do ski (downhill or cross country) you will require skis, boots and poles. Those interested in snowboarding will require snowboards and boots. Equipment can be very expensive to buy, so you may want to consider visiting our rental shop until you are committed to the sport. Ski Ben Eoin has a large rental fleet and professional staff that will ensure that your equipment fits properly.

There is an inherent risk to skiing/ snowboarding; falls and collisions do occur. As a result, we recommend that all beginners either buy or rent a helmet that is approved for skiing/snowboarding and wear it on the slopes.  At Ski Ben Eoin, helmets are mandatory for all youth and school programs and for those who venture onto the terrain park and half pipe.
.

Do I need snowboard or ski (downhill /cross country) lessons?

All beginners will benefit from a lesson. You will be given the opportunity to get acquainted with your equipment, learn the basics of how to control your speed and direction and be given tips that will make your experience more enjoyable. After your lesson, you can take off and have fun on your own. You’ll likely enjoy the day much more if you are not struggling to figure things out. We strongly recommend a lesson be booked in advance by calling 902-828-2804.
.

Are there beginner snowboard and ski (downhill / cross country) packages?

We offer “Discover Snowboard” and “Discover Skiing” packages for those that want to come and discover these exciting winter sports. Included is an introductory lesson to start you on your way to riding the slopes, a lift pass and equipment rental. We also provide private and semi-private lessons.
